Laine Watches

LAINE is an independent watchmaking atelier founded by Finnish watchmaker Torsti Laine and now based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, one of the historic centres of Swiss horology. Laine’s journey into watchmaking was unconventional: originally trained in computer science, he later graduated from the Finnish School of Watchmaking before gaining experience with A. Lange & Söhne in Germany and Kari Voutilainen in Switzerland. The atelier is distinguished by its deeply artisanal approach, particularly its hand-turned guilloché dials, meticulous movement decoration, hand-polished components and extensive customization. Current creations include the V38, GG3 and P37, with the watches combining classical proportions and traditional decorative techniques with contemporary execution. Rather than pursuing volume, LAINE operates as a small independent workshop where the watchmaker’s personal involvement remains central to the character of every timepiece.

Brand Founder — Torsti Laine

Torsti Laine is a Finnish independent watchmaker whose route to horology began in computer science before he discovered a passion for mechanical watchmaking. He subsequently studied at the prestigious Kelloseppäkoulu, the Finnish School of Watchmaking, and developed his skills through experience with A. Lange & Söhne and Kari Voutilainen. In 2014, while still establishing himself in the profession, Laine won the A. Lange & Söhne F.A. Lange Watchmaking Excellence Award for an innovative moon-phase concept. He used the prize money to acquire tools and advance his independent work. Around 2016, he established his own atelier in Switzerland, where he developed LAINE around traditional craftsmanship, hand-finishing and individually customized watches. He remains directly involved in the brand's watchmaking and creative development.

Current CEO: Torsti Laine

LAINE is structured as a highly personal independent watchmaking atelier rather than a conventional large-scale luxury company. Torsti Laine remains the central figure behind the workshop and is listed by the brand as its primary commercial and media contact. The atelier operates as Atelier d'horlogerie Laine Sàrl in La Chaux-de-Fonds, with Laine personally involved in technical development, guilloché, finishing and the direction of the workshop. Current LAINE communications continue to identify him as the brand's contact for both media and sales, rather than identifying a separate corporate CEO. This distinction is important for WATCH CIRCLE: Torsti Laine should be presented as Founder and Brand Principal/Watchmaker, not as a separately verified corporate CEO.

Torsti Laine | Founder | Laine Watches

Torsti Laine reflects on the experiences that shaped Laine Watches, from his studies at the Finnish School of Watchmaking and training with Kari Voutilainen and A. Lange & Söhne to establishing his own atelier in 2016. He explains his fascination with guilloché, the balance between analytical thinking and traditional craftsmanship, and why exceptional watchmaking extends beyond specifications to the quality of execution—even on components rarely seen by the owner.
