Swiss watchmaker MIDO continues to expand the versatility of its Ocean Star collection with the Ocean Star GMT, a timepiece that brings together the functional requirements of a dive watch and the convenience of a travel watch. Designed for people who move between time zones, the model combines robust construction with an easy-to-read display and practical GMT functionality.
The watch features a 44mm stainless-steel case measuring 13.4mm thick, with a combination of satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Its black dial is designed for legibility, with generously applied Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers. An orange GMT hand, distinguished by a luminous dot, provides a clear indication of a second time zone alongside the standard time display.
A date window at three o’clock adds everyday practicality, while the 24-hour day-and-night scale around the dial's flange helps the wearer distinguish between daytime and nighttime in the selected second time zone. The caseback is engraved with a reference to the world's 24 time zones and their corresponding capital cities, reinforcing the model's travel-oriented design.
The Ocean Star GMT also retains the underwater capabilities associated with the Ocean Star family. It offers water resistance to 200 metres, supported by a screw-down crown and caseback. A unidirectional rotating bezel with a black ceramic insert provides a durable timing interface for diving and other activities where elapsed time matters. Its fluted edge is designed to make the bezel easier to grip and operate.
Powering the watch is MIDO's Caliber 80 automatic movement, which provides up to 80 hours of power reserve. This extended autonomy allows the watch to continue running for more than three days when fully wound, reducing the need for frequent resetting after periods off the wrist. The movement drives the central time display, GMT function and date indication.
The model is paired with a black textile strap designed for comfort and easy changes without tools. This practical feature allows wearers to replace the strap more conveniently, whether adapting the watch for travel, everyday use or outdoor activities.
According to Watches News, the Ocean Star GMT was listed at €1,350 in its June 2026 coverage. Pricing and availability may vary by market and retailer.
By combining a second-time-zone display with substantial water resistance and an extended power reserve, MIDO positions the Ocean Star GMT as a versatile option for watch enthusiasts who want travel functionality without giving up the character of a robust dive watch.
