Vacheron Constantin Unveils Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Quest of Time, a Masterpiece of Astronomical Watchmaking

Limited to 20 pieces, the exceptional timepiece combines a sculptural golden titanium figure, a three-dimensional moon and a double-retrograde display powered by the hand-wound Caliber 3670.

Swiss luxury watchmaker Vacheron Constantin presents the Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Quest of Time, an extraordinary timepiece created to celebrate the Maison’s 270th anniversary. Drawing inspiration from the relationship between time, astronomy and human ingenuity, the watch transforms traditional timekeeping into a mechanical and artistic experience.

Published by Watches News on September 16, 2025, the model is a limited edition of just 20 pieces and carries the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva certification. Its development required three years of work, reflecting the technical complexity and craftsmanship behind its unconventional display.

At the centre of the design is a golden titanium figure representing an astronomer. Rather than using conventional central hands, the figure’s arms indicate the hours and minutes through a double-retrograde display. Wearers can choose between continuous time indication and an on-demand mode, in which the figure’s arms remain alongside its body until activated.

The design draws inspiration from Vacheron Constantin’s historic 1930 “Bras en l’Air” pocket watch and the Maison’s monumental La Quête du Temps astronomical clock. The result connects historical watchmaking traditions with a contemporary interpretation of mechanical animation.

The watch features a 43mm white-gold case and a translucent blue-gradient sapphire dial. The celestial theme continues through a hand-finished, three-dimensional moon that rotates according to its lunar phase, accompanied by an indication of the Moon’s age. A double-sector display provides information about the watch’s six-day power reserve.

Powering these functions is the Caliber 3670, a manually wound manufacture movement comprising 512 components. Operating at a high frequency of 5 Hz, the calibre was developed over three years and is associated with four patent applications. It delivers 144 hours of power reserve while coordinating the watch’s retrograde displays and astronomical indications.

The reverse side offers another perspective on the celestial theme. A sky chart depicts the constellation arrangement above Geneva on September 17, 1755, the date of Vacheron Constantin’s founding. The reverse also incorporates sidereal-time functionality, allowing the wearer to follow the movement of constellations with remarkable long-term precision.

The watch is completed by a dark-blue alligator-leather strap, complementing the white-gold case and the blue celestial display. With its combination of sculptural design, astronomical indications and complex mechanics, the model sits within the highest level of Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art creations.

The price is available on request. With only 20 examples planned, the Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Quest of Time stands as a highly exclusive expression of the Maison’s heritage, technical ingenuity and artistic craftsmanship.
