Ember Watch Company is a British independent watch brand based in Devon, founded and designed by John Glinister. Rather than following established microbrand design conventions, Ember takes a design-led approach rooted in Glinister's background in automotive, product and furniture design. John Michael Glinister is the founder, designer and driving force behind Ember Watch Company. His professional background is outside traditional horology: he studied automotive and product design and subsequently worked in furniture design before turning his attention to watch design. Rather than approaching the watch through established horological conventions, Glinister treated it as a product-design challenge. The Rocket's distinctive case evolved through freehand sketches, digital modelling, 3D printing and multiple physical prototypes. Automotive interiors, architecture, lighting and graphic design were among his sources of inspiration. Glinister describes Ember as a one-person operation in which he retains creative control over every major design decision, from the original concept through to the finished watch.
