MIDO Ocean Star 39: A Slimmer Dive Watch Built for Everyday Adventure

MIDO marks 80 years of the Ocean Star collection with its first 39mm model, combining compact proportions, 200-metre water resistance and the brand’s latest Calibre 72 automatic movement.

MIDO is expanding its iconic Ocean Star collection with the Ocean Star 39, a more compact interpretation of its long-running dive-watch formula. Introduced as part of the collection’s 80th anniversary, the model brings the Ocean Star's sporting character into a slimmer and more wearable 39mm format.

The new watch marks the first 39mm diameter in the Ocean Star collection, offering an alternative to the larger dimensions traditionally associated with modern dive watches. MIDO positions the model as a versatile sports watch designed to move comfortably between everyday wear and aquatic adventures.

Its most distinctive version features a navy-blue and black gradient relief dial, inspired by the ripples created by water across sandy seabeds. Large round markers filled with white Super-LumiNova are paired with luminous hour and minute hands to ensure strong legibility both above and below the water.

Inside the stainless-steel case is MIDO's Calibre 72 automatic movement, equipped with a Nivachron™ balance spring designed to improve resistance to magnetic fields. The movement provides an impressive 72-hour power reserve, giving the watch three days of autonomy when fully wound.

Water resistance remains central to the Ocean Star identity. The Ocean Star 39 features a screw-down crown and screw-down caseback, providing water resistance to 200 metres / 20 bar. An interchangeable bracelet with a diver's extension further reinforces its practical dive-watch credentials.

MIDO has also introduced the Ocean Star 39 in three configurations: a champagne-coloured dial on a steel bracelet, a black gradient dial on a steel bracelet, and an all-black version with the brand's signature orange accents paired with a black rubber strap.

The Ocean Star 39 is currently listed by MIDO at US$1,250 in the United States, while regional pricing varies.

With its reduced 39mm case, 200-metre water resistance and long-running 72-hour automatic movement, the Ocean Star 39 offers a compelling combination of sportiness, comfort and everyday versatility while continuing the legacy of a collection that dates back to 1944.
