Founded in Antwerp, Belgium, in 2010, RESSENCE is an independent watch brand created by Belgian industrial designer Benoît Mintiens. Rather than adapting conventional watchmaking architecture, Mintiens approached the wristwatch from the perspective of industrial design and user experience. RESSENCE's signature ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System) replaces traditional hands with continuously rotating discs, creating an intuitive and highly legible expression of time. The brand has also pioneered oil-filled displays, crownless cases and the innovative e-Crown setting system. Its collections have included Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Type 5 and Type 7, while newer developments have continued to push the company's design and mechanical boundaries. In 2026, RESSENCE has introduced its first proprietary movement, the RW-01, powering the Type 11 and marking a significant new chapter in its technical independence.
Benoît Mintiens is a Belgian industrial designer and the founder and creative mind behind RESSENCE. He graduated in industrial design in Antwerp in 1998 and subsequently worked as a consultant on a wide range of products, including high-speed trains, aircraft cabins, medical devices, leather goods and other transportation and industrial projects. His transition into watchmaking began almost accidentally after a friend in the diamond business asked him to design a watch. Dissatisfied with the conventional design language he encountered within the industry, Mintiens began developing his own concept from first principles. In 2010, he founded RESSENCE, applying his industrial-design methodology to mechanical horology and creating an entirely new approach to displaying time.
