Miki Eleta
Miki Eleta is an independent Swiss clockmaker and kinetic artist whose one-of-a-kind creations exist at the intersection of haute horlogerie, mechanical engineering and contemporary art. Born in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1950, Eleta moved to Switzerland in 1973 and initially worked in furniture restoration, clock repair and carving before turning increasingly toward kinetic art and clockmaking. Since the late 1990s, he has developed entirely hand-crafted timepieces, with every component conceived and produced as part of an individual artistic creation. His work incorporates sophisticated mechanisms including tourbillons, carousels, astronomical displays, annual calendars and chiming systems. Eleta deliberately rejects repetition: each creation is a unique piece designed to explore a new technical or artistic idea. His philosophy is rooted in curiosity, experimentation and the question that continually drives his work: what exactly is a clock?
Miki Eleta is the founder, creator and sole creative force behind Miki Eleta Unique Timepieces. Born in 1950 in Višegrad, he moved to Switzerland in 1973 and pursued several careers and interests before dedicating himself to kinetic art and clockmaking. He established his own workshop in 1990, initially combining furniture restoration, clock repair and carving. From 1996, kinetic art and clock construction became his primary focus, and by 2004 he was concentrating largely on private commissions and exhibitions. Eleta is largely self-taught as a clockmaker, learning through experimentation and building components himself. His work subsequently earned international recognition, including membership of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) in 2008.
