Chronoswiss is an independent Swiss-German luxury watch brand renowned for its mechanical complications, elaborate guilloché dials, hand craftsmanship, and distinctive regulator-style watches. Founded in 1983 in Munich, Germany, the brand was established by master watchmaker Gerd-Rüdiger Lang and later moved its headquarters to Lucerne, Switzerland.
Chronoswiss became particularly famous for its regulator watches, placing the hours, minutes, and seconds on separate displays. The brand also helped popularize the regulator format in modern wristwatch design. Its watches are distinguished by hand-guilloché dials, intricate engraving, onion-shaped crowns, and traditionally inspired cases combined with contemporary artistic techniques.
Gerd-Rüdiger Lang founded Chronoswiss in 1983 after developing a distinguished career as a watchmaker and chronograph specialist. A passionate racing enthusiast, Lang was known as “Mr. Chronograph” for his extensive knowledge of chronographs and timing instruments.
His first major breakthrough came with the Chronoswiss Régulateur, introduced in 1987, which became one of the defining regulator wristwatches of the modern era. Lang's approach combined traditional mechanical watchmaking with unconventional display concepts, establishing Chronoswiss as a distinctive independent brand.
Oliver Ebstein is the current owner and CEO of Chronoswiss. He acquired the company with his family in 2012, following the Lang family's departure from active ownership.
Under Ebstein's leadership, Chronoswiss has increasingly emphasized artistic craftsmanship, particularly hand-guilloché, enamel, engraving, and skeletonization. The company has also strengthened its presence in Lucerne and developed a more contemporary artistic identity while maintaining its traditional mechanical-watch foundations.
